CVE-2026-80515
8.9Eclipse Foundation · Eclipse Arrowhead
A path normalization flaw in Eclipse Arrowhead allows authenticated users to bypass management authorization gates via percent-encoded URL paths, potentially resulting in full administrative takeover.
Executive summary
A critical authorization bypass vulnerability in Eclipse Arrowhead 5.0.0 through 5.2.1 enables any authenticated user to gain full administrative control over the local cloud.
Vulnerability
The vulnerability stems from an incorrect authorization check that uses un-decoded URL strings to validate access to management endpoints. Because the underlying framework decodes these paths differently, an attacker can use percent-encoded characters to bypass the security filter and execute restricted operations while authenticated as a low-privileged system.
Business impact
The ability for any authenticated system to reach management operations, such as the creation of new administrative accounts, poses an extreme risk to the integrity and confidentiality of the Eclipse Arrowhead environment. Given the CVSS score of 8.9, this vulnerability is classified as high severity, as it facilitates complete administrative compromise of the local cloud, leading to potential data exfiltration and total loss of system control.
Remediation
Immediate Action: Review the official security advisory at the Eclipse Foundation vulnerability portal and apply the vendor-provided security updates as soon as they are released.
Proactive Monitoring: Monitor server access logs for anomalous URL patterns, specifically looking for percent-encoded characters within paths that contain the string mgmt.
Compensating Controls: Implement strict network-level access controls to limit which systems can reach management interfaces, and ensure that Web Application Firewalls are configured to normalize URL paths before inspection.
Exploitation status
Public Exploit Available: No
Analyst recommendation
This vulnerability represents a significant security risk that requires immediate attention from system administrators. Because the flaw allows for the escalation of privileges to a full administrative level, organizations must prioritize patching the affected Eclipse Arrowhead instances once a fix becomes available to prevent unauthorized system takeover.
